Franco Colapinto Rumored For 2025 F1 Seat With Red Bull’s Junior Team, VCARB

Franco Colapinto

Franco Colapinto, who stepped in as Williams’ interim driver for the final stretch of the 2024 Formula 1 season, could now be reportedly in line for a seat with Red Bull’s junior team, VCARB.

According to F1 insider Joe Saward, the Argentine talent could be on the verge of replacing Liam Lawson in 2025, sparking buzz online.

Franco Colapinto is a Star in the Making

Colapinto has already caught attention since his debut at the Italian Grand Prix, impressively scoring five points—a tally that overshadows the results of his predecessor, Logan Sargeant. But despite his strong performances, Williams’ driver lineup for 2025 is locked in, with Carlos Sainz joining Alex Albon. This leaves Colapinto without a full-time seat, which raises concerns about his future in Formula 1.

The talented driver might return to Formula 2 next season, a step that could slow his rising momentum. With only one spot available at Sauber for 2025, competition is fierce, and Colapinto’s window to secure an F1 seat seems limited.

Red Bull’s Eyes on Colapinto

However, Colapinto’s F1 dreams may not be over just yet. According to Saward, Red Bull is eyeing him for a position at VCARB in 2025. If this move happens, Colapinto would join forces with Yuki Tsunoda, as Liam Lawson is rumored to step up to Red Bull Racing and replace Sergio Perez, whose future with the team is looking increasingly uncertain.

Saward noted in his column:

“They may also have found a solution to the vacancy that a departing Lawson might create at VCARB, as Franco Colapinto is doing a great job for Williams, and he has no drive in 2025…”

Perez’s Future in Jeopardy?

Sergio Perez, despite signing a two-year extension in May, has faced heavy criticism for his inconsistent performances this season. Now, it looks like Red Bull could shake up its lineup for 2025, promoting Lawson to partner Max Verstappen and potentially opening a spot for Colapinto at VCARB.

The drama surrounding Red Bull’s driver decisions is far from over, but one thing is clear—Franco Colapinto is firmly on their radar for a future seat in Formula 1.

What’s Next for Franco Colapinto?

While Red Bull has yet to confirm any moves, the future looks promising for Colapinto. As the 2025 driver market continues to shift, the young Argentine will be hoping his performances with Williams will land him a coveted spot on the grid.
