Nissan Launches Retro Formula E Game ‘NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo’

NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo

What happens when a legendary carmaker meets Japan’s iconic gaming scene? You get NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo, Nissan’s very first video game. It’s a neon-lit, 8-bit love letter to speed, culture, and cherry blossoms.

It is created to celebrate the return of the FIA Formula E World Championship to Japan. The retro-style arcade game is a collab between Nissan Formula E Team and renowned Japanese illustrator Kentaro Yoshida. The launch marks a milestone for the team’s home race in Tokyo on May 17–18.

NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo: A Blast from the 90s

Styled like a classic 90s arcade racer, the game puts players behind the wheel of a stylized Nissan Formula E car. Expect Tokyo street circuits, Mount Fuji backdrops, and a flurry of cherry blossoms—all racing by at a pulse-raising 322 kph.

Play it now on mobile or PC at www.NismoElectricRacer.com. The game even comes with a nostalgic, 90s-style commercial that mashes up gameplay and real-life race footage.

Challenge the Pros (Yes, Really)

Formula E drivers Oliver Rowland and Norman Nato are jumping in to set their fastest times before the big race, and fans can join the leaderboard to challenge their scores.

“We’re very excited to return to our home E-Prix in Tokyo,” said Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team. “This race is not only a major moment for us as a team, but also a chance to celebrate our Japanese heritage. With NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo we’ve created something that captures the energy we bring to the track while celebrating Japan’s legendary gaming culture. We’ve had a good season so far and we’re ready to give it our all in Tokyo to deliver excitement both on and off the track.”

Meet the Artist Behind ‘NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo’

The game is the first digital interactive work by Kentaro Yoshida, whose pastel tones, bold linework, and quirky characters are beloved in the art world. His creativity doesn’t stop at the screen, either.

He also designed a one-off special edition livery for the Nissan Formula E car, reimagining its sakura-inspired look. The car’s debut? May 14, during a fan event at Nissan Global HQ in Yokohama, and across all NISMO social channels.

More Than a Game, It’s a Vibe

With NISMO Electric Racer Tokyo, Nissan taps into the nostalgia of a generation raised on arcade cabinets, pairing it with the high-voltage thrill of electric racing. It’s part game, part cultural tribute, and all speed.

Whether you’re a die-hard gamer, a Formula E fan, or just here for the retro vibes, this is one lap you’ll want to take.
