Max Verstappen’s time at Red Bull may face turbulence, with his father, Jos Verstappen, hinting at uncertainty regarding the four-time world champion’s future.
Red Bull’s Rollercoaster 2024 Season
Max Verstappen clinched his fourth consecutive Formula 1 world championship in 2024, displaying his signature dominance by securing the title with two races to go. However, the season wasn’t without its bumps. A mid-year slump saw the Dutchman endure a rare 10-race winless streak as Red Bull’s RB20 car fell behind its rivals.
During this period, McLaren’s Lando Norris, brought the heat, pushing Verstappen to the limit in a tight championship race. Although Norris fell short of dethroning the Red Bull ace, McLaren walked away with the constructors’ title, ending Red Bull’s reign. Even Ferrari overtook them by the season’s end, relegating Red Bull to an unexpected third place.

Jos Verstappen Mounts Pressure for Red Bull’s 2025 Comeback
As 2025 looms, the competition isn’t easing up.
McLaren’s dynamic duo, Norris and Oscar Piastri, are expected to have another strong season, while Ferrari brings the dream team of seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton alongside Charles Leclerc.
Amid the stiff competition, Red Bull’s struggles have sparked concerns over Verstappen’s long-term commitment to the team. While his contract with Red Bull runs through 2028, it reportedly contains performance-based exit clauses.
Jos Verstappen, a former F1 driver himself, recently issued a stern warning to Red Bull, emphasizing the importance of delivering a top-tier car to retain his son’s loyalty.
“Red Bull has to build a car that is no longer so difficult to drive. If you look at the second half of 2024, you can’t be optimistic,” Jos stated in an interview with the Münchner Merkur/tz media group.

“Everything is Possible,” Says Jos Verstappen
When pressed about Max’s future, Jos remained noncommittal, leaving the door wide open.
“Everything is possible. He can stay at Red Bull if he sees a purpose in it. His goal is to be able to win races. If he feels that this is no longer possible at Red Bull, a change is not out of the question,” he said.
Adding fuel to the rumor mill, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff previously named Verstappen as his top driver target. This has sparked speculation about a potential Verstappen-Mercedes pairing should Red Bull fail to deliver a championship-worthy car.

What’s Next for Verstappen and Red Bull?
For now, Verstappen’s future with Red Bull hinges on the team’s ability to rebound in 2025. With the competition only growing fiercer, all eyes are on the Milton Keynes squad to see if they can meet the expectations of their star driver—or risk losing him to a rival team.
