Sergio Perez in Talks for F1 Return in 2026

Sergio Perez isn’t done with Formula 1 just yet.

The 35-year-old Mexican driver has confirmed discussions with multiple teams about a possible return next season. This is following his departure from Red Bull at the end of 2024.

“I’ve been approached by a few teams since Abu Dhabi. The season has started, so a few things will open up in the coming months,” Perez told the official Formula 1 website. “Once I know all my options, I will make a decision.”

A Rough End to His Red Bull Era

Perez parted ways with Red Bull just six months after signing a two-year contract extension. His 2024 season was far from ideal—zero wins, just four podium finishes, and a frustrating battle with the RB20 car.

Reflecting on the struggles, Perez admitted:

“Especially last year, I didn’t get to show what I’m able to do as a driver. Now, all of a sudden, people realise how difficult the car is to drive.”

His replacement, Liam Lawson, didn’t fare much better and was replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after two races in 2025, further highlighting the RB21’s challenges.

What’s Next for Sergio Perez?

Despite the rocky exit, Perez isn’t rushing into any decision. He’s clear about his priorities:

“What is very clear to me is that I’m only coming back if the project makes sense and it’s something I can enjoy.”

Perez, who has previously raced for Sauber and McLaren, remains a respected name on the grid. With the F1 driver market heating up, all eyes will be on where the Mexican ace lands next.
