Porsche’s high-performance electric sedan, the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach package, has once again set a new benchmark—this time at the legendary Autódromo José Carlos Pace, better known as Interlagos. On February 5, 2025, three-time IMSA champion Felipe Nasr clocked a blistering 1:42.1 lap time, obliterating the previous EV lap record by nearly eight seconds.

Nasr’s record-breaking run was more than just a milestone for electric cars—it showcased Porsche’s commitment to pushing EV performance to new heights. The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT outpaced the previous record set by the Taycan Turbo S in 2022 (1:49.8) and even beat the 911 Turbo S, which had previously lapped Interlagos in 1:43.087.

“I expected strong acceleration and torque, but what impressed me the most was the overall performance,” said Nasr. “The steering of the Taycan Turbo GT was incredibly precise in the slow corners and remained stable even under heavy braking. The balance, the grip—it’s a true performance machine.”

Porsche Taycan Turbo GT, EV Dominance on the Track

This latest record is just one in a series of triumphs for the Taycan Turbo GT. Earlier in 2025, Porsche set the record for the longest continuous EV drift on ice, covering 10.87 miles in a Taycan GTS. Prior to that, the Taycan Turbo GT stunned enthusiasts with a 1:27.87 lap at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, making it the fastest road-legal electric car at the circuit. And let’s not forget its jaw-dropping 7:07.55 Nürburgring Nordschleife lap in a pre-production model.

The Tech Behind the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Speed

The Taycan Turbo GT and its Weissach package variant boast cutting-edge technology, including a silicon carbide pulse inverter on the rear axle, producing up to 1019 hp. Attack Mode, inspired by Porsche’s Formula E 99X Electric racer, delivers an additional 160 hp burst for 10 seconds. Porsche has also trimmed up to 157 lbs from the Taycan Turbo S, enhancing agility and overall performance.

Porsche’s Formula E Safety Car

Since May 2024, the Taycan Turbo GT has served as the official Formula E safety car, reinforcing its motorsport pedigree. Driven by Bruno Correia, this high-performance EV leads the field with FIA-approved safety modifications and state-of-the-art communication systems.

The Future of High-Performance EVs

With records falling across the globe, the Taycan Turbo GT is proving that electric performance is here to stay. Whether dominating the Nürburgring, setting ice drift records, or shaving seconds off lap times at Interlagos, Porsche continues to redefine what’s possible in the world of EVs.
