I recently spotted the world’s most expensive suv in the streets of West Hollywood in Los Angeles, California: The Karlmann King. I figured that I’d go ahead and share some info that you may not know.
Let’s start with the fact that this vehicle has reportedly held its throne as the most expensive SUV for six years straight.
Designed in 2015 and launched in 2018, this beast of a vehicle, with its sharp design and over-the-top features, still has no rivals. Starting price is $1 million, and it can skyrocket to more than $3.5 million depending on customizations. The Karlmann King stands as the ultimate status symbol for the ultra-wealthy.
Why So Pricey?
The Karlmann King is built like a tank—literally. It’s a massive vehicle, weighing up to 13,000 pounds (about the same as two average cars) and offering an armored version for those who value safety as much as luxury.
On the inside, you’re treated to a private jet-like experience. Think fully-reclining leather seats, a PlayStation, high-definition TVs, a Nespresso machine and even a champagne fridge. Some models even come with a starlight ceiling (yes, like the Rolls-Royce) and gold-plated accents.
It’s no wonder some buyers have called it a “mobile mansion.”
The SUV’s exterior looks like something straight out of a superhero movie. Imagine, if Hulk asks Batman to build him a “bat-mobile”, but for his size, the “Hulk-mobile”?

Only a Few Karlmann King in the World
A big part of the Karlmann family allure is its exclusivity. Fewer than 30 have been made, adding to its rarity. While some ultra-luxury cars like Bugatti, Rolls-Royce or Rezvani may also carry hefty price tags, the Karlmann King’s unique design and limited availability make it stand out.
“Looking for something that people passing by cannot forget,” said Luciano d’Ambrosio, Founder and CEO of LDA-Design told Chelsea & Thomas’s Adventures. “And this is the purpose.”
And they definitely succeeded.

The King’s Lasting Power
Even though many new SUVs have hit the market since 2018, none have dethroned the Karlmann King as the most expensive.
It’s the kind of car that billionaires, celebrities and royals turn to when they want to make a statement.
So, even six years after its launch, the Karlmann King still wears the crown on the road.
