Logan Sargeant, former Williams Formula 1 driver, is poised to make his mark in the IndyCar Series by testing with Meyer Shank Racing (MSR).
Logan Sargeant and his Transition to IndyCar
According to Racer.com, The 23-year-old American will have his first taste of IndyCar on November 19 at The Thermal Club in California. It is a private racetrack soon to be part of the series’ championship schedule. This test comes after a turbulent season with Williams, where Sargeant struggled to score points and faced increasing pressure after multiple errors.
In late August, Williams officially confirmed Sargeant’s departure, marking the end of his brief stint in Formula 1. He was replaced by Formula 2 driver Franco Colapinto for the remainder of the 2024 season, with Carlos Sainz set to take the seat in 2025.
Sargeant’s exit from Williams, and the lack of interest from other F1 teams, appeared to signal the end of his Formula 1 career, pushing him to seek new opportunities in the world of American motorsport.
IndyCar Test After Nashville Meetings
Following his departure from Formula 1, Sargeant’s management team immediately began exploring options in IndyCar, reaching out to several teams. Despite the limited number of seats available this late in the year, Sargeant traveled to the season finale in Nashville, which took place on September 14-15, to meet with various teams and gauge interest.
His conversations with Meyer Shank Racing were especially productive. The team was impressed with his professionalism and openness. They extended an offer for a test at The Thermal Club, which Sargeant eagerly accepted.
This test will be critical for Logan Sargeant, as it provides him a chance to demonstrate his abilities in a new racing format. The 17-turn, 3.067-mile road course is challenging, and Sargeant’s performance could open doors for him in IndyCar. While MSR has no open seats for the 2025 season, the opportunity could lead to future prospects with other teams who are interested in evaluating his potential in the series.

Meyer Shank and Ganassi Partnership for the Test
Logan Sargeant’s test will also mark the first road course evaluation for Meyer Shank Racing under their new technical partnership with Chip Ganassi Racing. This collaboration will see Ganassi, the reigning IndyCar champions, providing chassis setups, dampers, and engineering expertise to MSR. The partnership will be crucial in enhancing MSR’s performance and in assessing Sargeant’s capabilities on track.
The teams will first test on an oval in October with 2021 Indianapolis 500 champion Helio Castroneves. Then, will shifting focus to Sargeant’s road course test at The Thermal Club.
Meyer Shank Racing and Chip Ganassi Racing currently have no available driver seats for 2025. But, Sargeant’s test could still be a stepping stone. With teams eyeing new talent, a strong performance at the test could put him on the IndyCar radar. As Sargeant transitions from Formula 1 to IndyCar, the upcoming test will play a significant role in shaping the next chapter of his racing career.
